Kelly McDonald is a developing driver rated 828, a rank reflecting minimal experience in competitive racing. The rating describes a driver at the entry level of club and regional competition; this is racing with a real competition licence and real results, but in fields that do not routinely include professionals. McDonald's record spans a single season in 2014, with two starts in NASA competition driving a Mazda Spec Miata.[1]
McDonald finished twelfth on average across the two classified races, which places the driver at the front of entry-level fields but without sufficient consistency or sample size to claim sustained competitive standing. Across those two starts, McDonald finished ahead of drivers rated between 562 and 1,202, including Nicolas Aretakis, Kane Greenleaf, Vinay Chandra and Natalie Fenaroli; these were isolated results rather than a pattern of regular head-to-head competition. The Mazda Spec Miata team McDonald raced for has a strong record overall with 49 wins and 124 drivers across the index, though its strongest driver, Kyle Kaiser, operates at a vastly higher level.
McDonald retired from racing after 2014 and has not returned to competition since.
