Nelson Grossnickle is a developing amateur racer whose career sits at 400 on the Racer Rating scale; this places him at the entry level of club and regional racing, where results are sparse and competitive experience is still accumulating. His record across five seasons of NASA competition from 2008 to 2012 shows 20 starts with no wins or podium finishes, averaging a finish of eighth place among classified results. The 2012 season saw only two rounds of racing before retirement from the sport.[1]

Throughout his NASA campaign, Grossnickle raced against a field dominated by semi-professional drivers rated in the 1,000 to 1,400 band; most notable among them were Beau Dunnivant, a two-time NASA American Iron champion, and Chris Cobetto, champion of that series in both 2011 and 2012.
