Ryan MacDermid was a competitive amateur who raced in single-seater and karting machinery across four seasons from 2016 to 2019. His record comprises six starts, yielding one win in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series and one podium finish overall, against an average grid position of P12.2. Most of his activity came through four entries in the SKUSA SuperNationals between 2016 and 2019, a significant karting platform, where he failed to podium. He is now retired from competition.[1]

MacDermid's head-to-head record against regular competitors shows mixed results; he finished ahead of semi-professional drivers Billy Musgrave and Olin Galli in the majority of their shared races, but trailed Ryan Norberg across their three encounters. His single outing in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series produced his career highlight, a win in one of two starts that year. Most notably, MacDermid occasionally competed against drivers graded at the professional and elite amateur levels; he finished ahead of FIA Gold-graded Caio Collet once and bettered FIA Silver-graded drivers Zachary Claman De Melo, Christian Brooks and Miklas Born in isolated results, though these remain single instances against much stronger opposition rather than patterns of competitive advantage.
