Jim Arendt was a developing amateur racer competing in NASA, a national multiclass endurance championship where up to fifteen classes shared the track in single races. He raced a Porsche 944 Turbo in the GTS3 class, which ran German sports cars alongside competitors in BMW and other marques.[1]
Arendt's indexed racing career spanned two seasons from 2008 to 2009, during which he made four starts in NASA. He finished fifty-fourth in the championship standings in 2009, his final season of racing.[2]
In the multiclass fields he entered, Arendt was closely matched with James Gaylord, a regular opponent at the same developing level who had made nine NASA starts. He finished ahead of Paul Donovan, who had raced American Endurance Racing, BMW club racing and NASA across eighteen starts, in two of their meetings; he also beat Edward Phillips once, though Phillips had made twenty-five NASA starts by comparison.
