John Macgowan competes in club-level racing with a Racer Rating of 1,505, which places him in the club category. This level represents real competition on a genuine racing licence, though typically in fields that do not include full-time professionals. Over five seasons from 2022 to 2026, Macgowan has recorded 27 starts in SCCA Regionals, accumulating 6 wins and 19 podiums. His average finishing position of P3.1 demonstrates consistent front-running form within his field.[1]
Macgowan has established a strong record against his regular rivals in club competition. He finished ahead of Phil Adams, Ernest Taylor, and Steve Knob in the vast majority of their shared races, with winning records of 19–3, 14–1, and 12–0 respectively. Against slightly stronger opposition, he beat Albert Lazo, the 2025 SCCA Regionals ITA champion, in nine encounters while losing none, and finished ahead of Cesar Ochoa on seven occasions from nine meetings. He has also recorded isolated victories over semi-professional level drivers such as Michael Van and Domenic DePietto.
Macgowan remains active in SCCA Regionals as of 2026, though recent form has dipped; his most recent outing in 2026 saw him finish P43. His competitive record places him comfortably at the front of club racing, with wins against a regional champion providing notable results for this level of competition.
