John Spain is a club-level driver racing in NASA, a multiclass solo sprint championship in the United States that fields amateurs and semi-professionals together. He drives a Thunder Roadster GTR, a purpose-built tube-frame roadster with a Hayabusa engine, for Tinker TR GTR.[1]
Spain has raced in NASA since 2014, accumulating five wins and nineteen podiums across twenty-seven starts over that span. His 2026 season is in progress; he has taken one win and three podiums from five rounds so far. His record reflects consistent front-running pace within his class. He finishes ahead of club-level regular Glenn Schattman more often than not and runs closely matched with another regular, Alex Wolenski, who has also raced in Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup and American Endurance Racing. Spain has beaten semi-professional Derrek Morehead, a driver with ninety-nine NASA starts, on four occasions.[2]
