Max Bense is a club-level driver with a rating of 879, placing him among developing competitors in club and regional racing. His record spans five seasons from 2018 to 2023 in American Endurance Racing, where he started thirteen times and scored one win with two additional podium finishes. His average finishing position of seventh across classified starts indicates occasional competitive pace in fields that drew a mix of amateur and semi-professional competitors.[1]
Bense's head-to-head record against his most frequent rivals shows a pattern of inconsistency typical of developing-level racing. Against Jason Nolan, the 2019 American Endurance Racing Class 1 champion, and Matthew Curry, the 2021 American Endurance Racing Class 2 champion, Bense split their encounters evenly, winning three and losing three against each. He finished behind the more experienced Iain Barber and Azim Aliriza, a two-time class champion, in the majority of their shared races. Notable single results include victories over drivers rated considerably higher: FIA Silver-graded Ashley Freiberg, semi-professional competitors Thomas Lee and William Alsup, and Silver-graded Jaden Lander. These results stand as isolated achievements rather than establishing a pattern of competitive advantage over stronger fields.
Bense's most recent activity saw him finish seventy-seventh in three rounds during 2023, after which he retired from racing. His career totals of one win from thirteen starts reflect a participant in club endurance racing who occasionally reached competitive pace but did not establish himself at a higher level.
