David Pennington was a competitive amateur racing formula cars in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series, a multiclass national championship run in the United States. His only indexed season came in 2019, when he started six rounds in the Championship class and took two podium finishes.[1]
Pennington finished 14th in the final championship standings. His most regular opponents were semi-professional Prescott Campbell, a driver with 28 starts in the series, and Michael Myers, who won the 2019 Lucas Oil championship; Pennington usually finished behind Campbell but was closely matched with Myers. He also finished ahead of Steven Thomas, a professional with significant endurance racing experience, twice during the season, and ahead of Ryan Nash, an entry-level professional with 32 starts in the Lucas Oil series, once.[2]
