Joe Crowell Jr. competed at club racing level, a rating of 1,336 reflecting competition in regional racing against amateur drivers rather than professionals. His single season on record came in 2008, when he raced Porsche machinery in the NASA 944 SuperCup series and won the championship with a perfect record; he started six races, finished first in all six, and never left the podium. This record, though short, was formed against a field that included genuine competitors; Steve Katz, who would go on to win the 2009 NASA 944 SuperCup championship the following year, raced against Crowell Jr. and finished behind him twice.[1]

Crowell Jr. was undefeated against his main rival, Don Ruschman, winning all four races in which they competed together. He also beat Tim Pruitt on two occasions; Pruitt held multiple championships in NASA and PCA club racing, though not in the 944 SuperCup series itself. The dominance of Crowell Jr.'s 2008 season came within the bounds of club racing, where fields are smaller and the competitive range narrower than in professional championships, but his margin over the field and his ability to beat drivers who proved competitive elsewhere mark him as the class of that particular year and series. He retired after 2008 and has not raced since.
