Maxwell James raced in SCCA Majors between 2021 and 2024, amassing 17 starts across four seasons. His single podium finish came in that span, while he recorded no race wins. He has now retired from competition. His Racer Rating of 676 places him in the developing category; this represents a driver with limited track record against established competition and racing primarily in club or regional fields.[1]

James competed against a field of club-level racers, with his most frequent rivals carrying ratings between 1,435 and 3,999. Against the strongest of these, Danny Steyn, who was a four-time SCCA Majors STL champion across the years James raced, James managed one finish ahead of him in six shared races. He also beat three professional-graded drivers on single occasions: Westin Workman, Aaron Jeansonne, and Jake Walker, all FIA Silver graded. However, these were isolated results against a field in which James finished on average in seventh place and struggled against nearly all regular competitors; he trailed David Palfenier nine times in eleven races, Greg Blaser six consecutive times, and was consistently outpaced by John Elder, Camden Risch, and Joe Ebben across multiple meetings.[2]

His four-year tenure in SCCA Majors yielded limited success against club competition, and he retired from racing having not established himself as a consistent front-runner in the series.
