Danny Steyn is an entry-level professional competing in national multiclass sprint racing in the United States. He races primarily in SCCA Majors and SCCA Regionals, driving spec Mazda MX-5 Miatas in the SM class and small-bore production-based tuner cars in the STL class. He has been active for 11 seasons since 2008 and currently races for Mazda Spec Miata.[1]
Steyn has won four consecutive SCCA Majors STL championships from 2021 through 2024. Across SCCA Majors competition he has taken 50 wins and 70 podiums from 110 starts. His earlier NASA career, spanning 2008 to 2021 across PTD, Spec Miata and Super Unlimited classes, yielded 13 wins and 20 podiums from 29 starts. In SCCA Regionals he has added 14 wins and 19 podiums from 24 starts. His sole SCCA Runoffs appearance produced one win and four podiums from seven starts. He competed briefly in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup in 2016.[2]
In a field that mixes semi-professional and amateur racers with graded professionals, Steyn regularly finishes ahead of competitive amateurs Nick Leverone, a 2025 SCCA Majors STL champion with 153 starts in the series, and Amy Mills. He has beaten Connor Zilisch, an established professional and 2025 NASCAR Xfinity champion, seven times across their encounters in shared racing, and has finished ahead of Matthew Payne, an FIA Gold graded driver with substantial Supercars Championship experience, four times.
