Morgan Shepherd is an American former professional stock car racing driver and team owner whose career in NASCAR spanned more than five decades, one of the longest tenures in the sport's history. In the later stages of his career, he competed part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, most recently fielding the No. 89 Chevrolet Camaro for his own operation, Shepherd Racing Ventures. Away from the track, Shepherd is a born again Christian who has served as a lay minister to the racing community, a role that became closely associated with his public identity as a veteran competitor.[1]
Across 32 career starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Shepherd's record shows no wins, no podium finishes, and no championships, reflecting a role in the later years of his career built more around continued participation than front-running results. His current Racer Rating stands at 1,472, placing him 9,428th among active drivers on the Elo-style scale used to compare competitors, well below the 10,000 to 11,500 range occupied by the sport's top performers. In the 2026 season, Shepherd competed in 12 rounds without recording a win or podium, finishing 44th in the standings. He is now classified as retired, closing out a NASCAR career defined less by statistical dominance than by sheer longevity and steady presence in the sport.[2]
