R Mark Carter races in national solo sprint championships in the United States, competing in SCCA Regionals and SCCA Majors across two spec classes: the SMX class for 2006-2015 Mazda MX-5s and the one-design Spec Racer Ford SRF3. A developing-level driver, Carter has taken 25 starts since 2023, most recently placing 96th in the 2025 SCCA Regionals championship standings after four rounds.[1]
Carter's record sits in the lower reaches of multiclass grids that mix amateur, semi-professional and graded professional drivers. He regularly finishes behind competitive amateurs Simon Gamble and Peter Jankovskis, both of whom have substantially more experience in SCCA racing. His strongest showing came against entry-level professional Morgan Burkhard, an FIA Silver driver who competes in IMSA Pilot Challenge; Carter finished ahead of Burkhard once. He has also beaten Caleb Shrader, the 2025 SCCA Runoffs SRF3 champion and an entry-level professional with 82 SCCA Majors starts, in a single meeting.[2]
