Steve Fensler Jr. was a competitive amateur racer in NASA, a national multiclass championship mixing amateur and professional drivers across fifteen classes. He drove a 1934 Ford Coupe in the Legends classes, 5/8-scale coupes powered by motorcycle engines. His sole team affiliation of record was 114417, which fielded him for nine of his starts.[1]
Fensler raced in NASA from 2003 to 2019, accumulating 35 starts across seventeen seasons. He won 23 races and finished on the podium in 31 of them, and took championships in 2004 and 2007. His final two racing appearances, both in 2019, yielded two wins and two podiums.[2]
In the Legends classes he regularly competed with developing and club-level racers; he usually finished ahead of regular opponents Butch Summers and Rick Zollman, both of whom had substantially more NASA starts. Among the strongest drivers he faced were entry-level professionals including Mike Bliss, a NASCAR Xfinity regular with whom Fensler competed in 43 NASA races and beat four times, and Dave Newsham, a British Touring Car driver who appeared in three NASA races and whom Fensler beat once.
