Thomas G. Smith is a club-level driver whose recorded career consists of a single endurance racing start. His rating of 959 places him in the developing category; this is the entry level of competitive racing, comprising drivers with too few races on record to have established a pattern or those consistently finishing at the back of club fields. Smith's only race came in the 2021 American Endurance Racing season, where he finished 138th in a large field. That sole outing was his complete competitive record before retirement.[1]

The circumstances of Smith's single race are unusual. He finished ahead of David Gausman and Brett Cleer, both of whom went on to become multiple-time American Endurance Racing class champions in subsequent years, as well as Jason Nolan, a former American Endurance Racing Class 1 champion. However, a single result across drivers of vastly different experience levels in an endurance field of 138 cars carries minimal significance; finishing ahead of strong competitors once says nothing about competitive standing when the driver has no other races to establish a pattern. Smith never raced again after 2021 and has been retired from competition since.
