Tom Belsø was the first Formula One driver from Denmark. His career in the sport consisted of two starts in 1974, both for the Iso Marlboro team, where he failed to finish in either race and scored no championship points. Though his time in the highest category was brief, he demonstrated competitive pace against strong drivers; across his two starts he finished ahead of John Watson, Vittorio Brambilla, and Rikky von Opel, all accomplished professionals of the era.[1]
Belsø's racing career remains amateur in scope and duration. His average finishing position across his two classified starts was eighth, but the absence of podiums or points in F1 indicates he lacked the consistency or outright pace required to sustain a ride in the championship. He retired from racing after 1974 and has remained the only Danish-born driver to compete in Formula One history until Kevin Magnussen's entry into the sport decades later.[2]
