Allen Thornton races club-level solo sprint racing in national American multiclass championships. He competes in NASA, a fifteen-class series where he drives a Chevrolet SS in American Iron and Super Unlimited, and in SCCA regional and major events in GT2 and GTA machinery. His rating of 1,405 places him at club level, competing against amateurs and semi-professionals in fields that reach into the graded professional ranks.[1]

Thornton has raced on record for ten seasons from 2012 to 2025, with 20 starts across NASA, SCCA Regionals, and SCCA Majors. He has taken 3 wins and 9 podiums, the bulk of his success coming in NASA, where he finished with 2 wins and 6 podiums across 16 starts between 2012 and 2021. He returned to competition in 2023 after a gap, taking two podiums in three SCCA Regional starts and then winning in his sole SCCA Majors outing in 2025, finishing fifth in the Majors championship standings.[2]

In a field that mixes club and competitive amateur drivers with entry-level and semi-professional professionals, Thornton typically runs behind Terry Mathis, a regular NASA opponent, but is closely matched with Jack Stanford, a competitive amateur who has raced NASA, SCCA Majors and Regionals. He has beaten Dean Martin, an entry-level professional with FIA Bronze grading and significant IMSA Pilot Challenge experience, once across their meetings, and has one result ahead of semi-professional Brent Goforth, who races Trans-Am.
