António Simões raced in a single-class open-wheel championship that mixed amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals. He competed for West Surrey Racing, an established team that has fielded drivers including Ayrton Senna, in the 1988 Formula 3 Macau round.[1]
Simões made one start in his indexed racing career, in 1988. The Formula 3 Macau field that year included Jean Alesi, who would become an established professional and 1989 International Formula 3000 champion, and Karl Wendlinger, who went on to win the 1999 FIA GT Championship and race in Formula 1. Simões finished ahead of both drivers in that single meeting.[2]
