Jim Mashburn is a competitive amateur racing driver; his rating of 2,752 places him at the front end of club racing and entry-level professional-am competition. His career record comprises a single start in the Star Mazda Championship in 2006, competing for World Speed Motorsports. He did not finish in the points that day, classified thirty-fourth in a field that included several drivers considerably more experienced than himself.[1]

That single appearance nonetheless contained a notable detail. Mashburn finished ahead of three drivers with substantially stronger records: John Pew and Ross Smith, both FIA Silver graded professionals; and Gerardo Bonilla, a mid-tier professional. The strength of that field suggests World Speed Motorsports had assembled competitive equipment that year, though Mashburn's own lack of further racing makes it impossible to assess whether this was a one-off result or evidence of genuine competitive pace. His retirement from motorsport came immediately after this brief venture into single-seater racing in 2006.
