Joey Licata Jr. is a competitive amateur driver, rated 2,545. This is the level of club and regional racing; the front end of club competition where drivers are genuine competitors but have not consistently broken through to professional fields. Licata's record spans two seasons from 2007 to 2008, confined to the SKUSA SuperNationals with two starts and no wins or podium finishes. He finished on average in twentieth place.[1]
The most notable aspect of his brief record is the company he occasionally kept. He finished ahead of Conor Daly, who would become a much stronger driver and go on to win the 2010 Star Mazda Championship as a FIA Gold rated professional; he also beat Andy Lee and Brody Goble, both semi-professional or professional drivers in their own right. A single result against much stronger opposition is not a pattern, but it does show Licata was capable of competing credibly in mixed fields. His last recorded event was the 2008 SKUSA SuperNationals. He has since retired from racing.[2]
