Assen Rachev is a competitive amateur racing driver; his rating of 2,537 places him at the front of club racing and entry-level professional fields. Between 2017 and 2019, Rachev made 16 starts in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, a one-make series, competing for Possien - Hall Motorsports. He scored no wins or podiums across three seasons and finished 12th-round contested in 2019, his final year. His average finishing position across all classified races was 18th.[1]

Rachev competed against a field of semi-professional drivers with stronger ratings, most notably Robert Stout and John Dean, both graded FIA Silver, and Bryan Ortiz, an FIA Silver driver and two-time champion. Against these rivals, Rachev's head-to-head record was decisively one-sided; he finished behind Stout and Dean in every race they shared and behind Ortiz in 15 of 15 encounters.
