John Robinson is a semi-professional racing in national multiclass championships in the United States. He competes in solo open-wheel and economy-car classes across the SCCA Majors and SCCA Regionals, where he drives Formula Ford cars and B-Spec hatchbacks. His rating of 2,910 places him at the semi-professional level, racing against a mixed field of amateurs and professionals in events that draw amateur through graded-professional entrants.[1]
Robinson won the 2023 SCCA Regionals championship, taking both his starts that season as victories. In the SCCA Majors he has been more selective; across five seasons from 2021 onwards he has made nine starts, winning twice and taking four podiums. Early in his career he contested the FIA GT Championship in 1997 and 1998, joining Roock Sportsystem for shared-car endurance racing; those six starts yielded no podiums against a field including established professionals and Silver-graded drivers. His most recent activity was a single start in SVRA in 2025, which placed him 67th in the championship standings.[2]
Robinson's record in multiclass endurance racing shows he usually finished behind established professionals such as Mike Hezemans and Claudia Hürtgen, both regular opponents across the FIA GT field. His solo racing in the SCCA has placed him ahead of drivers of considerably higher calibre on rare occasions; he beat Max Angelelli, an established professional with Formula 3 Macau and IMSA experience, once, and John Nielsen, another established professional from the International Formula 3000 grid, once. Most of his competition in the SCCA comes from amateur and semi-professional fields where he runs competitively mid-pack.
