Max Angelelli is a retired Italian driver who raced as an established professional, Gold-graded in endurance and sportscar competition. He spent twelve seasons on record between 1990 and 2017, competing in Formula 3 and international single-seater racing in the early 1990s before a gap of seventeen years preceded a return to endurance racing in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship. In IMSA he drove prototypes for Wayne Taylor Racing, one of the stronger operations on the grid.[1]
Angelelli took two wins and five podiums across eleven IMSA starts between 2014 and 2017, finishing 17th in the championship standings in his final season. His early career included fourteen Formula 3 Macau entries and a single International Formula 3000 start in 1991, where he collected two podiums in the former series against a mixed field of amateurs and professionals. He later competed in the FIA GT Championship's shared-car endurance format in 1997 and 1998, taking eleven starts for Zakspeed Racing.[2]
In IMSA Angelelli raced regularly against Christian Fittipaldi, a Platinum-graded Indy driver and two-time series champion, and typically finished behind him. He was more closely matched with Olivier Beretta, the 1999 FIA GT Championship winner and another regular in the field. Among his notable finishes were victories over Kyle Larson, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, and Sébastien Buemi, a four-time WEC champion and former Formula E titleholder, though these represented isolated results rather than a pattern.
