Olivier Beretta was a professional GT and endurance racing driver, FIA Gold graded, who spent most of his career in the FIA GT Championship with Luc Alphand Aventures. He also raced in the World Endurance Championship for MR Racing in his later years, and made a brief single-seater career that included ten Formula 1 starts for Larrousse in 1994.[1]
Beretta won the 1999 FIA GT Championship, his sole major title. His record across 30 FIA GT starts yielded six wins and eight podiums; in the WEC he took a single victory and three further podiums across 24 starts. His single-seater racing, spanning International Formula 3000 with Forti and Formula 1, produced one win in Formula 3000 but no points in his Grand Prix outings. His total career record stands at 87 starts, eight wins and thirteen podiums.[2]
In FIA GT, Beretta was closely matched with Emmanuel Collard, a FIA Silver entry-level professional who became a WEC LMGTE Am champion; against Jean-Marc Gounon, another regular opponent at the level, he usually finished behind. He beat established professional Gerhard Berger and elite professional Mark Webber once each, both achievements in shared-car racing where the calibre of co-driver and the unpredictability of endurance racing shaped the outcome as much as individual pace.
