Franz Konrad is a retired entry-level professional who raced in endurance and single-seater championships. He held the FIA Bronze grade, placing him among amateur and gentleman drivers racing alongside professionals in sportscar events. He founded Konrad Motorsport in 1976 and competed primarily for his own team across 11 seasons from 1983 to 2014.[1]
Konrad's racing career centred on the FIA GT Championship, where he started 64 times across nearly a decade and scored four podiums. He also raced in Formula 3 Macau early in his career, with seven starts between 1983 and 1985, before a final single-car outing in IMSA WeatherTech in 2014. His 72 career starts yielded four podium finishes and no wins. Among the field, he raced regularly against entry-level professionals Gerold Ried and Mike Hezemans, each of them a close match; he also finished ahead of established professionals Alessandro Nannini twice and Allan McNish once.[2]
Konrad Motorsport became one of the stronger operations in endurance racing, fielding 85 drivers and winning 30 races across the index, though Konrad's own record remained modest. The team's strongest driver was established professional Max Angelelli, who raced at a level well above the founder's own performances.
