Wolfgang Kaufmann was an entry-level professional racing in multiclass endurance championships across Europe and Germany, primarily in shared-car competition. His main career spanned the FIA GT Championship from 1997 to 2009 and the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie from 2010 to 2019, racing for teams including PMB Motorsport, FUNmotorsport, and Freisinger Motorsport across modified production-based and near-standard cars in classes spanning the grids he entered.[1]
Across 102 starts over 21 seasons, Kaufmann took five wins and 19 podiums. His longest stint was in the FIA GT Championship, where he made 70 starts for PMB Motorsport across thirteen seasons, taking one win and four podiums in a shared-car field mixing amateurs with graded professionals. He found greater success in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, winning twice and taking 13 podiums from 28 starts in a national multiclass championship. He was crowned champion of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie in 2012 with Roadrunner Racing GmbH. In single-round appearances, he won the 2017 24H Series and the 2021 Nürburgring 24 Hours, both multiclass endurance races; his final indexed racing came in Prototype Cup Germany in 2023, where he finished 29th in the championship standings across two rounds.[2]
In the FIA GT Championship, Kaufmann was closely matched with FIA Silver professional Mike Hezemans across their shared races, and ran evenly with entry-level professional Gerold Ried. He finished ahead of established professionals including Michael Bartels, a three-time FIA GT champion, and FIA Gold graded driver Max Angelelli.
