He fared better against most other regular rivals in the series, beating John Mefford seven times in nine races and finishing ahead of John Olsen and Joe Pruskowski six times each. The notable outlier in his season was a pair of victories over Scott Speed, later an elite professional driver and a Platinum-graded sportscar competitor; however, these were isolated results rather than a pattern of competitiveness at that level.
