🇳🇴 John Olsen

John Olsen was a semi-professional driver competing in the Star Mazda Championship across 2002 and 2003. His Racer Rating of 3,834 places him in the semi-professional band; this level describes drivers who win in pro-am and one-make classes and run mid-pack among full professionals. Olsen raced 17 times in Star Mazda, accumulating one podium finish and averaging a 15th-place result. He did not win a race.[1]

Olsen's record against the field shows mixed form. He finished ahead of club-level drivers Dan Weyland and Steve Cook consistently across their shared races, and held a winning record against them both. Against stronger competition, he beat Michael McDowell twice; McDowell was a Gold-graded professional and won the Star Mazda Championship in 2004. He also twice finished ahead of Moses Smith, the 2002 Star Mazda champion, and three times ahead of Luis Schiavo, who won the series in 2003. These were isolated results in a head-to-head dynamic that favoured his stronger rivals, however. Smith finished ahead of Olsen 14 times from 16 shared races, and Schiavo's record against him was similarly one-sided across their season-long competition.[2]

Olsen retired from racing after 2003. His career comprised a single season of competitive racing in a professional feeder series, where he remained a mid-field presence without securing a win.
