Matt Varsha is a semi-professional driver whose rating of 3,839 places him in the competitive amateur band; this level describes quick drivers racing at the entry end of professional fields, typically self-funded and competing against established professionals rather than with them. Varsha's career on record consists of a single season in the 2006 Star Mazda Championship, where he made ten starts for Racers Edge Motorsports and finished eighth in the final standings with one win and two podium finishes.[1]
Varsha's season took place in a field populated by stronger drivers. He raced against Adrian Carrio, the 2006 Star Mazda champion, whom he outfinished twice in ten meetings but trailed eight times. Against other professional-grade rivals such as Ryan Justice and Mike Potekhen, both rated above 4,100, Varsha finished ahead in four races each but behind in six. His most competitive head-to-head came against John Pew, an FIA Silver graded driver, whom he beat in seven of their ten races. Notably, Varsha also finished ahead of Christopher Cumming, a much stronger professional-level driver rated 4,564, and bested the FIA Gold driver and 2019 IMSA Pilot Challenge TCR champion Mark Wilkins once. His average finishing position across the ten races was 12.9th.
Varsha has not raced since 2006 and is listed as retired. Racers Edge Motorsports, his sole team, fielded nineteen drivers across its record and produced six wins overall, its strongest driver being Michael Cooper at a professional level rating of 4,810.
