Mike Potekhen is a retired American racing driver from Colorado with a three-season career in open-wheel racing between 2004 and 2006. His Racer Rating of 4,102 places him at the professional level, meaning he was competitive enough to win races and podiums against other full-time drivers in his series, though not consistently at the front. He competed exclusively in the Star Mazda Championship, recording 3 wins and 8 podiums across 24 starts, primarily with Apex Racing.[1]

Potekhen's record shows him as a reliable mid-field runner who finished races with consistency; his average finish was eleventh. Against his most frequent rivals, he held a marked advantage: he outfinished Ryan Justice, his closest competitor at 4,119, in 16 of their 24 shared races. He similarly dominated lower-rated drivers such as John Faulkner, Jon Brownson and Dan Tomlin Jr., winning those head-to-heads decisively. Most notably, he occasionally beat much stronger drivers; he finished ahead of Michael McDowell, the 2004 Star Mazda champion and a professional-grade driver rated 6,310, in two races, and he beat the elite sportscar driver Jonathan Bomarito once, as well as Colin Braun once. These were isolated results rather than patterns, but they indicate Potekhen could contend with the upper end of his field on his best days.[2]

Potekhen's active racing ended after 2006, when he finished second in the championship in his final 12-round season. His subsequent appearances in Indy Lights and Indy Pro Series events around 2007 and 2008 did not sustain into an ongoing career. He remains the strongest driver fielded by Apex Racing across the database's records.
