Pedro Lamy is a retired Portuguese professional sportscar driver with a Platinum FIA categorisation, the designation for full professionals in endurance and GT racing. His career spanned 14 seasons from 1992 to 2020 across multiple formulae and categories, though his competitive record is defined almost entirely by his work in the World Endurance Championship, where he made 55 starts for Aston Martin Racing and secured 19 wins and 34 podiums; he also competed in IMSA WeatherTech in three starts without a podium finish. His two championship titles came in 2015 and 2017, both in the WEC. With a Racer Rating of 4,552, he sits in the upper echelon of professional sportscar drivers, a standing borne out by consistent finishes in the top half of the grid; across all his racing his average classified finish was P5.5.[1]
Lamy's endurance racing career was built on a strong head-to-head record against experienced professionals. Against Christian Ried, a four-time champion and fellow Platinum or near-Platinum rated driver, Lamy finished ahead in 27 of 39 shared races. He similarly dominated encounters with Khaled Al Qubaisi, finishing ahead in 21 of 25 races, and held a clear advantage over Emmanuel Collard, a professional-grade Silver-graded driver and champion, prevailing in 16 of 21 meetings. Against François Perrodo, a three-time champion whose Racer Rating exceeds his own, Lamy managed a winning head-to-head at 16 finishes ahead to five behind across 21 races, a marked achievement. Benjamin Barker, a Gold-graded professional driver, also fell more often behind than ahead of Lamy in their 19 shared races. His earlier Formula 1 career for Minardi from 1993 to 1996 yielded no podiums in 32 starts, though he became the first Portuguese driver to score a point in the championship; his single Formula 3 Macau victory in 1992 was a notable early highlight. In one-off encounters during his Formula 1 years, Lamy finished ahead of some of the era's greatest drivers, including Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost and Gerhard Berger, though these were isolated results rather than patterns of competitive advantage. His professional endurance racing career ended with his final WEC appearance in 2020.[2]
