Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a professional stock car driver who raced in NASCAR Xfinity from 1982 to 1994, competing primarily for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. He started 136 times across 13 seasons, running nearly all his races on oval tracks; this was a national-level single-class championship drawing both amateurs and graded professionals to the same grid.[1]

Earnhardt won 21 races and took 47 podiums over his indexed career. His strongest season was his first, in 1982, and he maintained competitive results through the mid-1980s before his pace gradually declined. In his final indexed season of 1994, he took one win and three podiums from 12 rounds and finished 15th in the championship standings. His record against established professionals was closely matched; he beat the two-time Xfinity champion Sam Ard eight times across their meetings, and finished ahead of Jeff Gordon, an established professional and FIA Gold driver, in 17 of their encounters.[2]

Earnhardt raced regularly against entry-level and professional drivers who formed the core of the Xfinity field during his tenure. He held his own against Tommy Houston and Dale Jarrett, both regulars in the series and closely matched with him across multiple seasons. His team, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., fielded 16 drivers across its indexed history and won 42 races in total; its strongest driver was the established professional Tony Stewart, who raced there after Earnhardt's indexed career had ended.
