Luis Gavignano is a semi-professional driver who raced Mazda MX-5 Miatas in spec and cup trim across two national championships in the United States between 2013 and 2017. He made 13 starts in a multiclass NASA series and a single-class Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, taking four podiums. His most recent work came with Atlanta Speedwerks in the Whelen series in 2017, where he started three races and finished twenty-first in the championship standings.[1]
Gavignano's record came against a field of club and semi-professional drivers alongside entry-level professionals. He was closely matched with regular opponents Glenn Evans and Ken Wilkinson, both established club racers in NASA. He finished ahead of Bryan Ortiz, who became the 2019 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup ND2 champion and later raced in Lamborghini Super Trofeo and IMSA; Gavignano beat him once across their meetings. He also finished ahead of Robert Stout, a Silver-graded driver who made fifty starts in the Whelen series.[2]
