Luis Gavignano is a competitive amateur driver; his rating of 2,591 places him at the front of club racing and entry-level professional fields, though his record shows he did not progress beyond the developmental stage. He competed in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin in 2017, completing three starts for Atlanta Speedwerks without recording a podium finish. His average finishing position across these three races was P26.[1]

Gavignano raced against a field of drivers considerably stronger than himself. Patrick Gallagher, who competed in all three of his races, held a rating of 5,249 as an FIA Silver graded driver and former champion; Nikko Reger, also present in all three races, was rated 4,022 and held similar credentials. Todd Lamb, Ashton Harrison and Max Faulkner similarly outpaced Gavignano in every shared start. He finished ahead of Robert Stout, an FIA Silver graded driver rated 3,635, on one occasion, and also beat Bryan Ortiz, a two-time champion rated 3,377, once over the course of his brief campaign. His record against the field showed consistent difficulties, finishing behind nearly all his regular rivals throughout the season.

Gavignano's racing career spanned only the 2017 season and has since concluded. With just three races on record and no podium finishes in a competitive field, his time in the sport was limited but placed him among drivers who race seriously at the grassroots level.
