Mo Smith is a semi-professional racing driver who competed in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series from 2016 to 2019, piloting formula cars in the Championship and Masters classes of this national American multiclass championship. He took five wins and eleven podiums across 35 starts before retiring from indexed racing.[1]
Smith won the 2016 Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series Championship in his first season. Over four years he proved capable against established drivers in the series; he beat Reece Gold, a professional-rated Silver-graded driver who won the 2018 championship, in head-to-head racing, and regularly finished ahead of Jeff Stern, the 2019 Masters champion. His later seasons saw diminishing activity, with only two rounds raced in 2019.[2]
Smith's record places him as a front-runner within the semi-professional field but below the professional level. He finished ahead of Aaron Jeansonne and Reece Gold on separate occasions, both professional-rated Silver-graded drivers with substantial credentials in higher-level series including Indy NXT and Porsche Carrera Cup NA. After his indexed career in single-seaters ended, Smith moved on to prototype racing and won the 2022 European Le Mans Series LMP3 championship.
