Ray Reed was a Rhodesian racing driver who made a single Formula 1 appearance in 1965, driving a self-built RE-Alfa Romeo at the South African Grand Prix for the RE constructor. He did not finish the race, classified in seventeenth position. His competitive record on the international stage remains limited to this solitary start; prior to this, he had raced in the non-championship Rand Grand Prix in 1964.[1]

Reed's Racer Rating of 2,939 reflects the amateur standing typical of a driver with minimal top-level experience. The scale places him in the lower ranges occupied by club and occasional national-level competitors rather than professional racing's established ranks. His single Grand Prix appearance yielded no championship points and no further Formula 1 opportunities; his racing career spanned only the 1964 and 1965 seasons before concluding.[2]

Reed died in an aircraft accident on 8 May 1970 near Nottingham Road, Natal, South Africa, along with his three children.
