Tim Parnell was a British driver who contested Formula 1 in 1961 with the Lotus-Climax team, appearing in two championship rounds. His racing career on record consisted solely of this single season. He finished his classified starts with an average position of tenth, and achieved one result against Henry Taylor, a much stronger professional-level driver, and another against Renato Pirocchi, a driver of comparable standing.[1]
The son of fellow racing driver Reg Parnell, Tim competed in a field populated by drivers of international calibre at a time when Formula 1 grids were considerably smaller than those of later decades. His appearance in the championship represented participation at the sport's highest single-seater level, though his tenure proved brief. The Lotus-Climax team for which he drove would go on to establish itself as one of the sport's most successful outfits, fielding numerous drivers and accumulating twenty-two race wins across its history; the team's strongest driver was Jim Clark, a figure of far greater distinction in the sport.[2]
