André Desmarais was an entry-level professional racing in the Star Mazda Championship, a national single-class formula series mixing amateur and professional drivers. He raced for Kaminsky Racing and Racers Edge Motorsports across two seasons from 2004 to 2005.[1]
Desmarais made 12 starts in Star Mazda over two seasons, finishing 17th in the championship standings in 2005. His strongest results came against established professionals; he finished ahead of Michael McDowell, the 2004 Star Mazda champion, twice, and beat Jonathan Bomarito, a Platinum-graded driver with experience in IMSA WeatherTech and the World Endurance Championship, once. He regularly outran entry-level professionals Ryan Justice and John Faulkner, both substantially more experienced in the series than he was.[2]
