Zane Dexter raced at developing level, the early stage of competitive racing where drivers are building experience and consistency against mixed fields. He competed in NASA, a national multiclass championship where production-based street cars and spec Mazdas run alongside professional drivers and amateurs in the same races. His primary machinery was the Mazda Miata, which he drove for the majority of his starts.[1]
Dexter's indexed racing ran from 2013 to 2021, a span of seven seasons and 49 starts. He took two wins and six podiums across that period, finishing 130th in the championship standings in his final season, 2021. The bulk of his racing came in NASA's PTC and Spec Miata classes, where the field mixes graded professionals with semi-professionals and amateurs.[2]
His regular competitors included Warren Dexter, a club-level Silver-graded driver with 56 NASA starts against whom he typically finished behind, and Tom Lutker, another developing driver whom he ran closely matched with. He beat Parker Chase, a professional with 31 IMSA Pilot Challenge starts alongside his 16 NASA appearances, once across their meetings, and Steve Dunn, an entry-level professional with 53 NASA starts, also once. Dexter raced with Mazda Miata as a team operation fielding over 1200 drivers across its entry, among them the established professional Gar Robinson.
