Ben Schermerhorn is a competitive amateur kart racer with a Racer Rating of 2,660; this places him at the front of club racing, quick and racing against professionals rather than with them, but without the consistency to move into semi-professional ranks. His career record spans six starts at the SKUSA SuperNationals between 2006 and 2013, a national-level karting championship, where he finished without wins or podiums and averaged tenth place.[1]
The competitive context of Schermerhorn's record shows isolated moments of pace against much stronger drivers. He beat Oliver Askew, a Silver-graded professional who went on to win the 2019 Indy NXT championship, in one outing; he also finished ahead of Nick Boulle, a Silver-graded professional and 2024 IMSA WeatherTech LMP2 champion, and of Milan Dontje and Arie Luyendyk Jr., both established professionals. However, these were single instances across a limited sample of starts rather than patterns of performance. Schermerhorn's most frequent rival was Vivek Tandon, a fellow club-level competitor against whom he held a 3-0 head-to-head advantage across three shared races. Schermerhorn has been retired since 2013.
