Derek Crockett is a competitive amateur, racing at club and regional level. His Racer Rating of 2,700 places him at the front of club racing; he races against professionals rather than with them, though typically finishes mid-pack in those fields. Between 2006 and 2011, Crockett made eight starts in the SKUSA SuperNationals, capturing one win and one additional podium finish. His average finishing position across all classified races was 13th.[1]

Crockett's most frequent rivals were drivers of similar standing; against semi-professional competitors such as Tyler Bennett, Jimmy McNeil, Cory Milne, Slava Prikhodko and Christopher Barkley, he produced a mixed head-to-head record, typically breaking even or slightly ahead. His most notable achievement was a single-race victory over Memo Gidley, a professional sportscar driver rated Bronze by the FIA and champion of the 2023 GT America SRO3 series; Crockett also finished ahead of established professionals Bryce Miller, Victor Carbone and Arie Luyendyk Jr. on isolated occasions, though these were rare occurrences in his limited racing sample rather than indicators of consistent performance at that level.
