Derek Wright is a semi-professional racing in a national multiclass sprint series, competing in the CMC and CMC2 classes for Chevrolet Camaro in NASA. He has raced primarily in that championship since 2011, with a single campaign in American Endurance Racing's shared-car Class 4 field in 2019.[1]
Wright holds five NASA championships, winning titles in 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Across his 16 seasons, he has taken 86 wins and 153 podiums from 191 NASA starts. His record in the endurance series consisted of two starts. In the ongoing 2026 NASA season, Wright leads the championship standings with ten wins and thirteen podiums from seventeen rounds raced so far.[2]
Wright runs closely matched against Kent Owens, a three-time NASA CMC champion with 188 starts in the series, and Bob Denton, a competitive amateur regular. His competition spans a field mixing amateurs and semi-professionals with graded professionals; he has finished ahead of Preston Brown, an entry-level professional and 2025 IMSA Pilot Challenge TCR champion, and Sean Noonan, a semi-professional with significant SCCA experience.
