Royal's results came entirely in NASA competition. He won three races and took four podiums in the 2016 season alone, finishing 19th in the championship standings that year. Across his career he was a regular competitor in Spec Miata, typically finishing behind club-level regular Mark Gibbons but closely matched with developing driver Manny Platis.[2]
His record includes multiple finishes ahead of Gar Robinson, a 2021 and 2023 IMSA WeatherTech LMP3 champion who has since become an established professional, and ahead of Ernie Francis Jr., an entry-level professional who went on to win the Trans-Am championship twice and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Pro title. These results came from a field mixing club and semi-professional drivers with occasional graded professionals, placing Royal in the middle ground of Spec Miata competition during his active years.
