Steve Hickham is a semi-professional driver whose career on record consists of four seasons in the Star Mazda Championship between 2004 and 2007, during which he accumulated eleven starts without recording a win or podium finish. His Racer Rating of 3,606 places him in the semi-professional band, meaning a driver who competes in pro-am and one-make classes and typically runs mid-pack among full professionals. His average finishing position of 20.2 across all classified starts reflects consistent struggles to reach the sharp end of the field.[1]

Hickham's head-to-head record against his regular rivals tells a story of competitive difficulty against a field of amateur and developing drivers. He finished ahead of Dan Tomlin III and Dan Tomlin Jr. on multiple occasions, holding a convincing edge against both, yet he trailed FIA Bronze graded Brian Thienes in five of eight meetings and finished behind professional-level drivers Ryan Justice and John Faulkner in the majority of their shared races. His sole victories over drivers of demonstrably stronger standing, Michael McDowell, the 2004 Star Mazda champion; Graham Rahal; Max Chilton; and Bryan Sellers, represent isolated results rather than sustained competitiveness at that level. Most of his racing was conducted under the Hickham Motorsports banner, a team that compiled no wins across its entire record and fielded a highest-rated driver in Alex Ardoin, who rated substantially above Hickham's own level.[2]

Hickham's racing career ended in 2007 after his final four rounds in Star Mazda. He is now retired from active competition.
