Ernie McCoy was an American racing driver who competed in Formula 1 during the 1953 and 1954 seasons, entering two races for Kurtis Kraft. He failed to score points or finish on the podium in either attempt. His final classified result came in 1954, when he completed the race in 27th position.[1]
McCoy's brief Formula 1 career placed him among drivers of modest standing in a demanding international championship. His two starts offered limited opportunity to establish himself; however, he managed to finish ahead of several drivers who would go on to stronger professional careers, including Indianapolis 500 winners Tony Bettenhausen, Jimmy Bryan, and Jimmy Davies, as well as Walt Faulkner, all of whom possessed ratings well into the 4,800s. His overall average finishing position across classified starts was 12th, a statistic reflecting the small sample of his competition but suggesting competence in the field he faced. McCoy's racing career lasted only those two seasons before he retired from the sport.
