Frank Schmickler is an entry-level professional who raced in multiclass endurance competitions in Germany. Between 2010 and 2016 he competed in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie for Mühlner Motorsport, running Porsche machinery across the Cup 3, SP 9 and V6 classes. He returned to the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2019, winning the race in the SP 8 class for Giti Tire Motorsport by RaceIng.[1]
Schmickler's career spans 12 starts across two series from 2010 to 2019. His only win came at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2019, a crewed endurance event in which multiple drivers share a single car. His other starts in the Langstrecken-Serie produced no additional podiums despite competing regularly for Mühlner Motorsport over seven rounds. The long gaps between active seasons, with no indexed racing from 2016 until his 2019 return, defined his calendar.[2]
He raced in fields that routinely mixed professionals and semi-professionals with club-level entrants. Marc Hennerici and Moritz Kranz, both regular series regulars with multiple championships in the Langstrecken-Serie, finished ahead of Schmickler in head-to-head meetings; Kranz alone won five titles in the series. In the 2019 Nürburgring 24 Hours victory, Schmickler finished ahead of Timo Bernhard, an established professional and WEC LMP1 champion, and Marc Lieb, an established professional with extensive FIA GT and WEC experience.
