James Breakell is a competitive amateur racing in multiclass endurance championships at the Nürburgring and in the British GT Championship. He holds an FIA Bronze grade, the amateur classification in sportscar racing. He races for Breakell Racing, a small team he operates, piloting BMW M240i Racing cars and Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport machinery across the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and British GT.[1]
Breakell has raced for thirteen seasons on record, from 2013 onwards, with eighteen starts in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie yielding three podiums. He has made four appearances at the Nürburgring 24 Hours since 2023 and one outing in the British GT Championship in 2024. His three podium finishes have all come in the Langstrecken-Serie, where he competes regularly in the BMW M240i class and amateur cup classes.[2]
The Langstrecken-Serie grids contain entry-level professionals and established amateurs racing together. Breakell habitually finishes behind the series regulars he faces most often, including Sven Markert, a four-time BMW M240i champion, and Heiko Eichenberg, who has won three Cup 3 titles and races the series almost weekly. On occasion he has finished ahead of drivers of considerably higher standing; he beat Tim Tramnitz, a Silver-graded professional with extensive Formula 3 and Formula Regional experience, once, and also once outfinished Alfred Renauer, a Silver-graded professional and two-time 24H Series GT3 champion. Breakell is currently competing in the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours, still in progress.
