Jason Toft is a retired amateur-level kart racer with a Racer Rating of 2,804, placing him in the competitive amateur band; this describes drivers quick enough to finish at the front of club racing fields but racing in company well below professional level. His record spans eight starts across the SKUSA SuperNationals between 2006 and 2017, a span of over a decade marked by infrequent competition. He never won a race or finished on a podium in that time, and averaged a twelfth-place finish across all classified starts.[1]
Toft's head-to-head record against his most frequent rivals tells a mixed story. Against Joey Wimsett and Fritz Leesmann, both competitive amateurs in a similar band, he finished ahead once but behind them in three or four races each. He had better success against Brett Buckwalter, Tyler Bennett, and Tom Dyer (an FIA Silver graded driver), finishing ahead in three of four encounters with each. These results place him in the middle of his peer group rather than dominant within it. On rare occasions he finished ahead of much stronger drivers; he beat AJ Allmendinger, an established professional graded FIA Gold, once, as well as Dan Wheldon, a professional-level driver, and Memo Gidley and Buddy Rice, both of whom competed at higher levels. These remain isolated results rather than a pattern of sustained competitiveness against stronger opposition.
The sparse frequency of his starts over eleven years suggests amateur status with limited racing commitments. His career concluded in 2017 and he is now retired from racing.
