Jim Guthrie is an entry-level professional racing in American single-class and multiclass road racing championships. He drives a 600-horsepower tube-frame silhouette car in the TAC class of Trans-Am for Blueprint Racing, alongside occasional starts in the TA2 class of the same series and earlier campaigns in NASA's Spec Miata class.[1]
Guthrie's record spans a decade of racing since his IndyCar career in the mid-1990s. He won the IndyCar Rookie of the Year in 1997 after taking a victory at Phoenix International Raceway; he made 15 starts across three seasons in the series, all on oval tracks, before being seriously injured during the 1998 Indianapolis 500. After a gap of two decades, he returned to racing in 2018 with a handful of NASA starts in a Mazda Miata. Since 2020 he has raced Trans-Am, competing in both the TA2 and TAC classes. In his current 2026 Trans-Am season, now five rounds in, he has taken one win and two podiums and sits second in the championship standings.[2]
Guthrie races in fields that mix established professionals with amateur and semi-professional competitors. On the Trans-Am grid he competes against drivers including Matthew Brabham, an established professional who has dominated the TAC class this season with six consecutive pole positions and multiple race wins; he also regularly meets Tony Stewart, an established professional with substantial NASCAR Xfinity and IndyCar experience. Guthrie has finished ahead of Stewart on several occasions, and once passed Michele Alboreto, a former Formula 1 driver, in the results.
