Eddie Cheever is an established professional driver competing in shared-car endurance racing at international and national levels. He holds an FIA Gold grading, placing him among the full-professional tier in sportscar competition. His current racing is with Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing in GT World Challenge Europe, where he has seven starts in 2026.[1]

Cheever's career spans nearly five decades of competition across Formula 1, IndyCar, and endurance racing. Between 1978 and 1989 he completed 132 Formula 1 starts for Arrows, taking nine podiums in a field mixing amateurs with graded professionals. His most significant single-seater success came in IndyCar, where he drove for his own Team Cheever from 1996 to 2002 across 70 oval-circuit starts, winning five races and taking nine podiums. That campaign included victory at the 1998 Indianapolis 500. His indexed endurance racing began recently; he has contested two IMSA WeatherTech rounds in the GTD class across 2024 and 2025, and joined GT World Challenge Europe in 2026.[2]

Throughout his Formula 1 years, Cheever regularly encountered elite professionals including Alain Prost, a five-time world champion who finished ahead of him consistently, and Nelson Piquet, a three-time champion whom Cheever beat on six occasions. He was closely matched against Riccardo Patrese, an established professional with 257 Formula 1 starts. His record against world-level competition reflects the standing of an accomplished regular in a field that included champions alongside developing drivers.
