Davey Hamilton was an established professional oval-racing driver in the IndyCar series, where he competed for Sam Schmidt Motorsports across 16 seasons from 1996 to 2011. He raced single-seaters exclusively on oval circuits in a national field mixing amateurs, semi-professionals, and graded professionals. His rating of 5,091 places him among established professionals.[1]

Hamilton made 57 starts and scored eight podium finishes without winning a race. He finished second in series points twice, in 1996–1997 and 1998, marking his closest approach to the championship. He also drove for A.J. Foyt Enterprises early in his career. His record spanned the peak of IndyCar's oval-racing era, when the series brought together drivers across multiple competitive levels in each race.[2]

His regular opponents included Buddy Lazier, the 2000 IndyCar champion, and Eddie Cheever, a former Formula 1 driver; both were closely matched against Hamilton across their meetings.
